Resurrected Computer + Windows XP Service Pack 3

22 08 2008

Writing just after resurrecting my laptop from the dead. Nasty virus!

I’ve decided to download and install the latest Service Pack 3 for XP not because it is much of an update for Windows XP, but it does addresses a few security loopholes in XP. I’ve always been on Service Pack 2. Not that it will prevent me from getting viruses again, but it’s more to sooth myself and for my peace of mind. After all, Microsoft has decided not to update Windows XP anymore in the future beyond Windows XP Service Pack 3 (*sobs*)

I am not a very big fan of Windows Vista, if at all, despite being a keen follower of Windows. I’ve used Windows 95, 98, Millenium Edition (which didn’t last long in the market at all :) ), Windows 2000 in the past but I’ve never seen an update to Windows which received such bad responses. When Vista was out, the crowd was obviously not keen to upgrade and the catch-up to update to the newest Vista was lagging behind, far beyond Microsoft’s expectations. Hence the killing of XP (well that’s quite obvious isn’t it :)).

I’ve always loved XP. In my opinion, it is the best Windows I’ve ever used and it will always be. I’ve decided that this will be the last Windows I’ll ever use! I will be switching over to the other side pretty soon :)

As for now, I’m really glad that my laptop is up and running again on XP. It has gone through so much!!!!

Chris, you dissapoint me with your lack of faith in Vista. Don’t follow what the “crowd” says. The “crowd” in this case was a bunch of non tech savvy media who savaged Vista after hearing a few initial bloggers’ thoughts on it. Ask those naysayers what they actually dislike about Vista and they will undoubtly say “oh…I just keep hearing bad things about it”. Ask them to expand on their answer and they struggle.

Granted, there are reasons to stick with XP and not upgrade to Vista, these only affect a very small minority of current PC users. For the large majority of users, there is no reason at all not to install Vista. It’s more functional, more secure, and harnesses your computing hardware much better than previous versions.

For goodness sake, give it a go!! You won’t regret it.

Happy early adopter of Vista since initial release,
Kian

Kianny! haha we will always go on talking bout this topic eh. Well I may not ever know about the advantages of Vista because honestly the athesthics itself is not appealing enough to me other than the Aero interface, which requires a lot of system resources. I’ve fixed a few of my friends’ computer which ran on Vista and I did not like the new interface at all esp the big icons :( My view on Windows is it will never be secure enough though it may continue to be even more secure, hence the second reason to switch to switch :)

Long live XP! :D
