it doesn’t have a DVD compartment!! >.<
Jenna..it has a DVD compartment! It is a 8x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) which allows DVD burning as well :)
i want to drool but i guess i expected something more ‘wow’ from apple. i’m disappointed they “jumped on the bandwagon” of designs that are similar to other brands. and now macbook & pro looks alike??!! how cannnn………………………….

Dear, the design is not similar to other brands! It probably is only similar to the new iMac design :) I’ve always wanted a 13″ MacBook Pro since the 13″ PowerBook days..and how delightful is the new arrival of MacBook as ‘the new 13″ MacBook Pro”!! :D
Chris! Now you have switched to the dark side eh considering that you now have your iphone and macbook =P So how are things on your side? Am currently finishing up my last semester of school. it’s tough alright but manage-able i hope

I am very busy preparing for my exam next month too..it’s the final exam before I finish Medical School! Wow! Last semester for you eh…I am so happy for you and hope to see you back in KK for end of the year holidays?
Got to hold the new 13″ MacBook in my hands today and I must say the new design, build material, finishing and the new trackpad are really something to drool about! I wish I could take it home straight away! :(
oh…so this is not the MacAir is it? coz Air doesn’t have DVD compartment i heard…

Hey Jenna yeap this is not the MacBook Air. It’s the new MacBook. It’s only 300g heavier than the Air + it has more ports and a DVD compartment :D

Hehe Jenna just for curiosity sake it cost an equivalent of AUS1800 in HK (with the current conversion rate) and AUS1999 in malaysia. Not a big difference but still cheaper eh? I heard it’s even cheaper in indonesia 0.0
Mr. Kia. I’ve just come across your blog. An Apple fan too I assume? It is cheaper in Indonesia but with Apple Education discount AND Tourist GST Refund Scheme it will be a hell lot cheaper to buy them in Australia… assuming that you travel overseas within the next 30 days of purchasing. I did the same when I bought my MacBook last year. I am planning to do the same with the new MacBook before I fly overseas this December, but unfortunately this time it is for my aunty :(

Hey Adrian! Thanks for reminding me about the Tourist GST Refund Scheme! It is definitely going to be sooo much cheaper with it! How much tax refund can I get? Ahh I’m sure your aunty is going to love it!
Apparently now when you browse the Education Store they come up with the discounted price AND the price minus the GST (it seems like they now know the tricks we do!) The GST is around 10% roughly. I think I saved like around $250 on my last purchase of a white MacBook 2.0GHz.

Granted, it’s a fairly decent laptop, albeit overpriced. Apple, being the evil company that they are, have still differentiated the Macbook and Pro by installing a nicer (not just bigger) display in the Pro. I concede that it’s quite sexy though…
…but Windows 7 will bring the hurt back on Mac next year! So, watch out.

Kian: Heh..the debate between Mac and Windows will never end eh? Honestly, Windows Vista has done enough harm to a lot of ex-Windows lovers. Apple has grown significantly in terms of their user base and market share over the past 3 years, and I am sure one of the reasons for that is the introduction of Vista. Windows 7 SOUNDS promising but to me it is just a way of Microsoft to ‘move on quickly’ from Vista’s failure :) This is the fastest updated ever for Windows (well if you do not consider Windows ME’s upgrade from Windows 98 a while back). Even they recognise that Vista was a failure and has disappointed a lot of Windows fan..which includes me :)
Hehe yea, Microsoft has pretty much called Vista a failure for them. I don’t see how they will manage to move businesses to Vista now that they’ve announce 7 is due soon. Oh well.
